What criteria do I need to meet to become a foster parent?

In order to become a foster parent with Guidestone Ohio, applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Have income sufficient to meet need
  • Have a working telephone
  • Have appropriate living space for foster children
  • Possess a driver's license, a reliable vehicle and automobile insurance
  • Have friends and/or family members available for support and/or childcare
  • Be willing to have ALL adults in the household submit background checks
  • Be willing to submit a brief physical exam and be free of any medical conditions that would impair ability to care for special needs children
  • Be willing to participate in all required training
  • Be willing and able to keep orderly records
  • Be willing to cooperate with social workers and follow agency policies and goals
  • Be tolerant of differences in others
  • Have a strong dedication and commitment to children
  • Be responsible, consistent, adaptable and energetic!
